Abstract We have determined the species composition of Eriophyoidea mites on plants of the Pyrus L. genus on the territory of the Academician A.V. Fomin Botanical Garden. It has been found that Eriophyes pyri Pgst and Epitrimerus pyri Nal. dominate. For the first time, individuals of Epitrimerus marginemtorguens Nal., have been found on pear leaves. The sequence of colonization of Eriophyes pyri leaves on a growing shoot of a pear has been determined, which is of practical importance for carrying out protective measures. The level of infestation of Pyrus communus varieties by phytophagous mites has been established. Twenty-seven varieties had low and medium damage. Seven varieties of P. communus and P. salicifolia have been classified as the most damaged by Eriophyes pyri. Along with this, four summer varieties have been very slightly damaged. These data should be taken into account for the monitoring of pest mites and planned population control measures

Abstract Population of the spider mite Oligonychus ununguis (Jacobi, 1905) was monitored on introduced species of coniferous plants in the Fomin Botanical Garden, Kyiv, Ukraine in 2012–2019. The mite material was collected by shaking method, fixed, mounted on slides and then processed according to standard techniques. Severity of damage (R, %) was calculated. Eight varieties of the introduced genera Pseudotsuga and Picea of coniferous plants were chosen as study objects. The pest was found on Pseudotsuga plants for the first time. It was revealed that different species and varieties of conifers differ in attractiveness as host plants for this pest species. The mite O. ununguis was the most numerous on plants of Pseudotsuga menziesii, Ps. menziesii var. viridis Franco, and Picea glauca (Moench.) Vossf. «Conica». The dependence of shoot growth parameters on pest density is strong according to the value of the coefficient of determination, R2 = 0.8781. The populations of spruce spider mites mostly increase in spring and autumn in Kyiv. In summer, the increase of air temperatures about 30–32 ℃ slowed the mite development, suppressing its density and the levels of damage on the conifers. Two species of Phytoseiidae, Typhlodromus laurae and Amblydromella inopinata and their activity in colonies of the pests on plants were observed in 2019. These predaceous mites can colonize the investigated coniferous plants together and control the O. ununguis population.

Abstract In 2018, the flat—mite Pentamerismus oregonensis was first discovered on juniper in Kyiv Botanical Gardens and parks (McGregor 1949). This is the northernmost border (50–27 'N and 30–30' E) of the species discovery in Ukraine. Observations of the pest development indicate that the number of mites reaches the highest point in August, then it gradually decreases and single individuals are recorded in September. In the conditions of Kyiv, the mite develops in one generation. Among the studied forage plants of P. oregonensis, its greatest number was observed on Juniperus sabina L. (3.6 ind./leaf), as well as J. communis L. and J. oblonga Bieb. (1.3 - 1.2 ind./leaf.)
